Singer Chinmayi Sripaada accused renowned lyricist Vairamuthu of sexual misconduct. On October 9, she took to Twitter to reveal her story as part of the #MeToo movement which is gaining momentum in India.
Chinmayi explained in detail that she was asked to meet Vairamuthu in his hotel room to ‘cooperate’. When Chinmayi and her mother refused, the show’s organiser threatened that her career might end.
On October 10, Vairamuthu took to Twitter to share his side of the story. He claimed that he is innocent and denied the allegations levelled against him.
Vairamuthu’s statement on Twitter:

Roughly translated, his tweet reads, “Shaming innocent people has become a fashion these days. I have been shamed on several occasions recently. This is one among them. I do not lend an ear to anything that is not true. Time shall reveal the truth.”

Chinmayi’s husband and actor Rahul Ravindran, Siddharth, singer Shakthishree Gopalan and a few others from Kollywood have come out in support of her and her allegations against Vairamuthu.
However, many leading actors continue to remain tight-lipped about this whole issue.
