Kaatru Veliyidai Review: Another Mani Ratnam Classic [Rating: ★★★½]

After much wait, the Mani Ratnam film Kaatru Veliyidai has finally hit the screens on Friday. After amusing us with his last movie OK Kanmani starring Nithya Menen and Dulquer Salmaan, Mani Ratnam has chosen yet another fresh pair- Karthi and Aditi Rao.

Kaatru Veliyidai opens with scenes of fighting between the Indian and Pakistani army. We see a pilot, Varun aka VC (Karthi), being captured by the Pakistani army. But very soon, we realise that this is a film about the battle between two hearts — in other words, not Roja!

  • Mani Ratnam has captured the life of men in Indian Air Force very well
  • Visuals are the real treat
  • Amazing chemistry between Karthi and Aditi
  • AR Rahman’s soulful music

  • A bit dragging
  • Predictable screenplay

There is no cut-throat twist in the story line, neither is any suspense. Yet every scene is a wonder and every nook of the screen is worth staring at. Costumes, choreography and camera are three atypical tools which made this movie all a magic.

RATING: Don’t expect much from the story plot [3.5/5]
